Founded in January 2019, MAPA Arquitectos LLC is an architecture and design practice based in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Barcelona, Spain. The firm is led by Catalan architect Mercè Martínez Martín and Puerto Rican architect José R. Pagán Parés. Their work is informed by the intersection of professional practice and academia, as both architects maintain active teaching careers, fostering a continuous dialogue between design, research, and education.

At MAPA Arquitectos, we believe architecture should not be imposed upon a place through a preconceived authorial vision that disregards its context. Instead, we advocate for an architecture that grows from the client’s aspirations and responds thoughtfully to the site, its culture, and its climate. While deeply rooted in context, our work is driven by an ongoing commitment to research and innovation in design, materiality, spatial experience, sustainability, and function.
